The rise of modern control rooms

The rise of modern control rooms

Control room environments are coming up in more and more conversations with AV resellers and their customers.

Across sectors like utilities, transport, broadcast and security operations, organisations are investing in centralised environments where teams can monitor systems, manage operations and respond to incidents in real time.

From what we’re seeing, these projects and opportunities are becoming more and more common. They typically bring together multiple systems working together, from LED and high-resolution displays to networking infrastructure, visualisation platforms and connectivity technologies like IP KVM.

Last week I had the chance to see one of the technologies behind these environments in action when I joined Adder Technology for a remote walkthrough of their new Customer Experience Center in Cambridge.

Why control room technology is gaining momentum

The space is built around one of the key technologies behind modern control rooms: IP KVM.

Across industries, organisations are building centralised environments where operators can monitor and manage multiple systems from a single location. Technologies like IP KVM make that possible, allowing operators to securely access machines anywhere on the network in real time.

It’s a market that’s expanding fast. The global control room solutions market is expected to reach around £68 billion by 2030, driven by the need for resilient infrastructure, real-time monitoring and better operational visibility across critical environments (Source: TechSci Research).

Advances in AI, IoT and data analytics are driving this shift, along with growing demand for real-time insight across sectors like utilities, manufacturing, transport and security operations.

What control room projects look like in practice

From the projects our team are involved in, control room environments rarely come down to a single product or vendor.

They typically combine several layers of technology, including:

  • LED video walls and high-resolution displays
  • operator consoles and workstations
  • networking and switching infrastructure
  • visualisation and monitoring platforms
  • connectivity technologies like IP KVM from Adder Technology

Getting the right mix, and the right partners behind them, is what makes these environments successful.

Through partnerships with companies like Adder Technology, we’re helping resellers design and deliver control room environments that are reliable, scalable and fit for the operational demands of their customers.

This is absolutely an area worth stepping into – demand is growing and the scale of projects can be significant.

Whether it’s something you’re already doing, or you’re new to the technology and looking for training, support and hands-on help to bring these kinds of projects to life for your AV business, we can help.

Inside Adder Technology’s new Customer Experience Center

The new Customer Experience Center in Cambridge provides a dedicated environment for partners and customers to explore how control room technologies come together in practice.

The facility allows visitors to see how distributed systems can be accessed, controlled and visualised across a network, replicating the types of environments used in sectors like broadcast, utilities and security operations.

Demo sessions with you and your customers can be run in person or remotely. If you’d like the tour, just drop me a quick email at info@solsticeav.com.
